Yays, Nays and OKs for 1-0 Stanford football

Six years ago, I penned the first Bad-Ugly-Good after the Washington football squad thumped visiting Stanford, 44-6. The B-U-G, as I called it for a spell, evolved into a blog institution: Each Stanford football game recap was followed by an assessment of what the Cardinal team, coaches and players had done poorly, in so-so fashion or well.

Today, that tradition changes… in a sense. Just for the sake of shaking things up a bit, I now present to you the Yays, Nays and OKs of Stanford football in last weekend’s 41-10 romp over Colgate.

Yays

Tanner McKee, quarterback. McKee put in a solid performance with 22 completions on 27 attempts for 308 yards and two scores in a little more than three quarters of action. If the junior from Corona, Calif., gets good protection from the offensive line and continues to make good decisions, the Stanford offense could put up a lot of points.

E.J. Smith, running back. The junior out of Dallas started off the game with a 13-yard kickoff return that he took out of the end zone and immediately followed it up with an 87-yard touchdown run. The play is tied for the fifth-longest scoring rush by a Stanford footballer. Smith finished with 118 yards and two scores on 11 carries and added five catches for 37 yards with a long of 15.
