Two months ago, I wrote (extensively!) about my first-ever pinball tournament championship. I’d now like to recap my performances in the two knockout-style pinball events that I’ve participated in since.

• Date: June 20, 2018
Venue: Boxcar, Raleigh, N.C.
Format: Group knockout (elimination upon three strikes)

Match 1: Total Nuclear Annihilation, Spooky Pinball, 2017 (four players)
Result: Lowest score of four (plus one strike)
Status: Χ

Match 2: Dialed In, Jersey Jack Pinball, 2017 (four players)
Result: One of the bottom two scores (plus one strike)
Status: ΧΧ

Match 3: Guardians of the Galaxy, Stern, 2017 (four players)
Result: One of the top two scores (no strike added)
Status: ΧΧ
Note: The pair of players in this match who finished with the worst scores were new to competitive pinball. Both had two strikes entering the round and were eliminated due to this result.

Match 4: Batman 66, Stern, 2016 (three players)
Result: Lowest score of three (plus one strike)
Status: ΧΧΧ (eliminated)

Final standing: Ninth place (two-way tie) out of 12 players

Short story shorter: I haven’t exactly covered myself in glory in knockout events since winning my first pinball championship in June.
